My 11yo daughter was in her third year at Rocky Creek this year. I love the confidence and independence that comes from going to overnight camp. Seeing a few posts this week of college kids calling a day or two after drop-off asking to drop out/come home and parents admitting this was their first time away from home overnight, I really think this is important development that camp helps with! She loves the activities and the outdoor fun. I definitely notice that compared to many friends she is much more comfortable in the outdoors and complains a lot less! (Granted she goes to other outdoor day camps over the summer too.) I love that Rocky Creek seems to have many international counselors and I think this exposure to folks from other cultures is wonderful. Lastly, my daughter has some amount of fear of heights, used to be scared of swimming, etc. and going to camp has helped her push a bit past her comfort zones and now is doing and enjoying activities she used to be scared of! She says Rocky Creek is one of her favorite places in the world!

As a parent one of the most valuable things I felt my daughter had was the supervised pool time. I’m not sure how much formal instruction was involved but pool safety is so necessary, and it was evident my daughter had at least some ability to swim after the summer was over.
